Client’s Challenge

Our client is one of creator of the “work boat” industry. They transports crews and supplies, tows and anchors mobile rigs, assists in offshore construction projects and performs a variety of specialised marine support services.

Our client wanted to upgrade their watermaker on one of their AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessels to increase the water capacity. Watermakers on board were designed for use for North Sea conditions and produced far less water than its actual capacity when it was brought to the Middle East.

The client needed a customised solution, which would produce the required volume of fresh water irrespective of the ambient conditions. Having worked with Advanced Watertek in the past, our client was convinced that we would be able support them with our technical expertise and experience. The main challenge was to provide a watermaker with a maximum skid size of 500mm x 600mm so it could be taken inside the vessel in a month’s time without any modification of the vessel.

Our Solution

The Advanced Watertek solution was to design and commission 1 no 10m3/day watermaker that catered to the fresh water requirement of the vessel. Great care was given while designing to produce the required fresh water volume within the acceptable quality standards under harsh Middle Eastern ambient conditions.

Advanced Watertek designed, manufactured and installed the system on the vessel in less than 3 weeks from the date of order.

We customised the skid to fit inside the available hatch and supplied it in parts. Our team reassembled the entire unit on-board the vessel. To make the maintenance easy, we provided a very robust plunger-type high-pressure pump, which requires little technical knowhow to maintain.
