CLIENTS CHALLENGE

Our client provides services to the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry and to Offshore Marine Construction Companies. They also own a fleet of AHT, AHTS, OSVs, Jack ups, Lift Boats etc. Due to the Oil companies’ strict guidelines for potable water parameters on contracted barges and rig, our client upgrades their watermakers.

Their barges and rigs have watermakers manufactured by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) during the new build stage. As a result, they face numerous operational issues while using these machines. Due to lack of support and spare parts, they experience poor output water quality and quantity. Moreover, these watermakers doesn’t produce the required capacity, because they are designed for a low saline condition.

The client needs watermakers that support the higher seawater temperatures in the Middle East for two of their barges. They look for reliable and durable systems with minimum maintenance requirements.

Our client also want a solution to disinfect the water, because the fresh water is stored in tanks where there were chances for bacterial growth.

As the barges were to sail within 3 weeks, prompt delivery is critical.

OUR SOLUTION

Advanced Watertek designed and commissioned 2 nos. 50 m3/day watermakers to replace the existing systems.

First of all, we designed a system that can be taken to the RO room without cutting off the door or hatch. In addition, we also provided an Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system to eliminate any bacterial growth in the stored water. Consequently, this helped the client to avoid the more expensive and troublesome option of chlorine handling.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • System capacity:            2 x 50 tons/day RO system

  • Design TDS:                   42,000 ppm

  • Process guarantee:        Less than 500 ppm@25 degC

  • UV:                                   Designed flow rate- 20m3/hr

PROJECT RESULT

The system was installed and commissioned by Advanced Watertek engineers. The treated water quality met all of the client’s parameters.

Our systems were designed to operate at 42000 ppm Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and between temperatures ranging from 5°C to 38°C. The superior performance of the new systems gave the client high-quality potable water. In addition, our world-class after-sales support helped them overcome the delays they faced in their previous operations.

We also managed to supply and install the systems on the barges in less than 3 weeks.

The system still is performing within the operating parameters set by the client, reducing operating and water purchasing costs and saving money.
